Most of Hamilton Township went up in a thirty-year stretch after the Second World War, and at this point it is one of the largest municipalities in New Jersey by population. The sections nearest the Trenton line were built earliest and densest, with modest frame houses and capes on small lots. Mercerville, Hamilton Square and Yardville filled in through the 1950s and 1960s with capes, ranches and split-levels, and the eastern end of the township kept adding subdivisions into the 1990s. The opening of a Northeast Corridor station here at the end of the 1990s turned Hamilton into a serious commuter town for both New York and Philadelphia, and the renovation money followed. What has not been renovated, in house after house, is the glazing: either the originals, or one round of replacements done in the 1980s. Both are past their working life.
A Hamilton house is usually a whole-house job rather than a one-window job: eight to fifteen openings in a handful of repeating sizes, which makes a full replacement simple to plan and sequence. We treat capes and split-levels as their own problems — dormer flashing, stairwell reach, the awkward openings on a half-level — and we re-glaze porch and breezeway additions properly instead of patching them again.
We will count the dormers and the enclosed porch along with everything else, and show you what a whole-house plan actually looks like.
