A gliding patio door — Andersen's term for a slider — moves one panel past another on a track, so nothing swings into the room. These are the ones we install, and the differences that matter are not really about looks. They come down to what the frame is made of, how wide an opening it will span, and how much choice you get in color and hardware.
Broadly:
We install them across New York City, Westchester and all of New Jersey. If you're not sure which fits, the comparison below is the fastest way to narrow it down.

A patio door is mostly glass, and the back of a house is where nobody is watching. Laminated security glass does not stop that — it makes it slow, loud and visible, because the pane stays in the frame after it breaks.
How laminated glass worksThe composite-frame slider. Lowest cost of entry, lowest upkeep.
Best when budget leads and you never want to think about the door again.
Wood core, vinyl-clad inside and out. Blinds sealed in the glass.
Best when you want wood construction but refuse to maintain it.
Natural wood interior, slim profiles, and widths to 15'10".
Best for wide openings and interiors where the door should read as trim, not as a frame.
The French door look, on a slider that steals no floor space.
Best when you want French doors but can’t give up the floor space to swing them.
Andersen’s best glider. Fiberglass exterior, 11 colors, one to four panels.
Best when the door is a feature of the house and the budget reflects that.
