Andersen Windows & Doors

A real wood door sealed in vinyl on both faces — the warmth of timber with none of the weekend maintenance.

Best when you want wood construction but refuse to maintain it.

Perma-Shield® is Andersen’s original answer to the problem with wood doors: wood moves, swells and needs repainting. Here the wood panel and frame are jacketed in rigid vinyl on the exterior *and* the interior, so the door keeps wood’s stiffness and insulating value while presenting a surface that only ever needs wiping down.

It is the model in the 200 Series that offers blinds between the glass — two panes with the blind sealed in the cavity between them. They never need dusting, never tangle, and there is no cord, which matters in a house with small children.

One thing worth knowing before you choose: on this model the exterior color follows from the interior color you pick, rather than being chosen independently. If you need a specific outside color against a specific inside finish, we will check the pairing at quote stage rather than at delivery.

The blinds sit inside the sealed glass unit and each panel is adjusted on its own — which is easier to show than to describe.

Inside view of the patio door: the left panel’s blinds fully closed, the right panel’s open to the deck beyond.
One panel closed, the other open. Each panel’s blind is adjusted separately, so you can shade the glare and keep the view.
Inside view of the same patio door with both panels’ blinds lowered and tilted open, the garden visible through the slats.
The blinds are sealed between the glass panes — nothing to dust, no cords in the room.

A different job. An old sliding barn door on a block outbuilding, and the same opening afterwards.

Security glass

Most home break-ins occur
in the back of the house.

A patio door is mostly glass, and the back of a house is where nobody is watching. Laminated security glass does not stop that — it makes it slow, loud and visible, because the pane stays in the frame after it breaks.

How laminated glass works
Tempered glass after the blow A patio door frame with no glass left in it. The pane has gone completely, leaving the opening clear, with a drift of small blunt granules heaped along the sill — deepest directly under the point of impact — and more thrown clear onto the floor outside the frame.
Tempered
Laminated glass after the same blow The same patio door frame, struck in the same place. The pane is cracked right through in a web radiating from the impact point, but every fragment is still held by the interlayer, the pane is still in the frame, and the opening is still closed. Nothing has fallen to the floor.
Laminated

What stands out.

Blinds inside the glass

Sealed between the panes — no dusting, no tangled cords, nothing for a toddler to pull.

Wood, without the upkeep

Rigid vinyl cladding on both faces means no scraping and no repainting.

Ball-bearing glide

Dual ball-bearing rollers with levelling adjusters keep a heavy panel moving with one hand.
